September 14 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
We invite you to join us for our September 14 tour of the Pat Schaper’s garden at 719 Bayland.
Pat Schaper has been coming to the garden club tours for many years and we are very happy to be featuring her garden for September. Like most homes on Bayland, the front yard is dominated by the canopy of the live oaks lining the street. Masses of azaleas and ligularia thrive in their shade—a welcome amenity for this time of year.
Pat’s backyard is a mix of shade and sun allowing for much more diversity of planting. The sun drenched deck on the back of the house has several sitting areas and many planters filled with flowers and large pots of tropicals including various plumaria, a variegated hibiscus, a Carnation of India, and an unusual variety of schefflera.
Many of those plants been her companions for a good many years as she brought them with her when she moved into this house 15 years ago. As some of them grew too big to be moved, she transitioned them to the beds lining the lawn. For example, an interesting pony tail palm has survived several Houston winters. On the fence in a shady corner, Pat has placed several large stag horn ferns and colorful begonias. These are just a few examples of what there is to discover on this garden tour.
The tour is free and you’re welcome to bring a friend!
