Implement and manage an optional subscription-based Constable Patrol program

  • Acts as a deterrent to crime by having a greater physical presence

  • Additional services to subscribing residents and business owners

Implementation of a formal neighborhood watch program

  • No organized neighborhood watch in the Heights

  • Support Mayor White's and Chief Hurtt's recommendations that citizens take a more active role in policing their neighborhood

  • Act as a deterrent to those committing crimes

  • Bring neighbors closer together

Education

  • Teach residents how to protect themselves and their property from criminal activity

  • Educate residents on the importance of reporting all criminal activity for statistical purposes

  • Educate residents on the methods by which to report various criminal activity (911, HPD non-emergency number, 311, etc.)

  • Work with neighborhood youth to deter criminal activity

Liaising with the Neighborhood Protection Corps within HPD

  • Coordinate graffiti prevention and abatement programs

  • Analyze graffiti statistics for our neighborhood

Presence at the monthly PIP (Positive Interaction Program) meetings coordinated through HPD

  • Build working relationships  with HPD and with the officers patrolling our neighborhood

  • Dissemination of information from the PIP meetings

Liaising with Councilman Garcia's office regarding crime and safety issues

  • Work with the Councilman's office regarding new ordinances or changes to ordinances that affect crime or public safety

  • Share documented incidents with the Councilman's office for further escalation within the City of Houston departments

Crime statistics and analysis

  • Download monthly statistics from the HPD website and report metrics

  • Attempt to gather non-reported criminal activity from residents to supplement HPD crime statistics

Coordinating with other HHA committees regarding crime and security issues.
