The 3rd annual Heights Great American Pie Contest was a truly sweet affair.
Check out photos from the event:
We wish to congratulate those who took home prizes once again, and they deserve to savor every moment!
This year’s winners are:
1st Place: Maureen Demar Hall’s Tomato Pie with crumbles of bacon in the crust.
2nd Place: Kris O’Brien’s Bobotie, a meatloaf-like pie with South African spices and flavors. Practice must make for perfect pies, since Kris is a returning winner.
3rd Place: Peggy Coleman’s Curry Chicken Pot Pie. This was one of the first pies to disappear entirely during the audience tasting!
1st Place: Kelley Dalton’s Mexican Chocolate Torte with extra canela and vainilla (cinnamon and vanilla) to impart a rich, unique flavor.
2nd Place: Jane DeWree Mast’s “Berry Surprise Delicious Pie.” While Jane may have only named this pie on the fly, her generous berry selection was clearly well planned.
3rd Place: Amy Alexander’s Chocolate Whiskey Pecan Pie wasn’t shy on bourbon or chocolate without sacrificing the sweet and crunchy goodness one would expect from a prize-winning pecan pie.
Over 60 neighbors attended to quite literally get a piece of the pie, with a fun Fourth of July theme as the backdrop that was perfectly executed by sponsors/event organizers Angela DeWree of Design & Inspiration, Dewayne Ross of Wedding Bliss Events, and Lisa Anheiser of Lisa’s Linens. Many, many thanks to each of our judges, volunteers, and sponsor a la mode Rita’s Italian Ice.
